Seth Godin posted a blog about SUSDAT, which stands for Show Up, Sit Down and Type (or Paint). His message is that the key to getting words on the page is ‘just doing it’, even when you don’t feel particularly motivated or inspired.

But what if writing eloquently just doesn’t come naturally to you?

Personally I’ve often struggled to put my ideas into a structured format, which can be very frustrating when I believe communication to be the lifeblood of business.

Perhaps that’s why I prefer to follow the lead of Mike Rohde and his SketchNote Army. His method of ‘sketching’ your notes and ideas is all about more images and fewer words. As a natural ‘doodler’, this suits me perfectly and nurtures my visual style of creativity.

OK, you can’t put off writing forever. However, if you start by recording your ideas in a way that suits your style (e.g. visually, aurally etc.), you will have a sturdy foundation on which to build your written content.
