Starting a Manuscript
While I have assisted with the production of nearly 40 books over the last 4 years, I am yet to put pen to paper and decided that it would be worthwhile me putting together some thoughts around my experiences over the last 4 years.
I have started on a manuscript about my experiences and processes in the independent publishing industry.
Every day you learn something new and just keep adding on new tools as you go along.
You also meet a lot of great people along the way, who help take some of the burden away of the skills that you don’t necessarily have to hand.
It is great to know that you can always find help if you look hard enough.
While there are frustrations working in the publishing industry, as with any industry, you need to keep pushing ahead. Eventually you will get to see an end result and be proud of what you have done.
I am looking forward to setting some more time aside to review what I have written to date and continuing with the polishing of the book so that I can get it to print.
It is an interesting journey for me, because I do not see myself as a particularly proficient writer, I am more of a visual person. I have a lot of difficulty putting words around the framework of what I am trying to lay out for people, so we will see how this goes.
Going through this process also helps develop steps and protocols for assisting people when they are wanting to put their own manuscript together and keeping matters simple.
You simply have to do the work, there is no way around that and you need to set the time aside to commit to the process.
A few people I have spoken with have said that their secret sauce is to set aside an hour a day, no matter what. I agree with this. If you think that you are able to put a day aside once a week, things always get in the way and then it certainly does not happen.
Time to get out the stopwatch and do my hour.
I look forward to see what becomes my final result.
